Looking for an amazing place to go for our 1 year anniversary, my partner and I settled on a weekend in Port Douglas. Nestled on the Coral Sea of Australia’s Tropical North Queensland coast, Port Douglas is an easy 70km drive north of Cairns Airport, and offers a plethora of luxury beach resorts, Great Barrier reef tours, and a selection of lovely bar and restaurant options in it’s little village centre.
The short but scenic drive gave us a great opportunity to hire a sporty-number from Avis for the weekend and take it for a spin around the winding coastal roads up to Port Douglas, straight from the airport in Cairns.
Accommodation-wise, there is a lot of top notch choices to choose from. Through our research, we settled on the Pullman Sea Temple Resort & Spa, which looked like the perfect romantic getaway to celebrate our anniversary. And we weren’t wrong!
The sprawling estate contains multiple complexes of luxury serviced apartments, studio spa rooms, private villas and the main guesthouse, all built around the 3000m2 lagoon-style pool. The luxurious villas boast their own private plunge pools, whilst many of the ground floor serviced apartments allow you to swim-out straight from your private veranda into the massive lagoon.
With a modern and fully-fitted kitchen in your suite, you can opt to self-cater, order from the hotel’s room service or dine in the hotel’s AQUA restaurant. Be warned, with stylish and elegant apartment luxury like this, you will not want to leave!
Around the grounds, the hotel has it’s own private access to the palm tree lined beach, there’s a pool bar in the centre of the lagoon to cater to all your summer cocktail needs, and the beautifully serene Vie Spa provides the ultimate treatments for relaxation and recuperation.
A resort shuttle bus runs to and from the village of Port Douglas to your hotel doorstep each day, allowing you to leave the car behind and really make the most of your time whether it be a short weekend or a two-week Great Barrier Reef adventure.
We indulged in an elegant and stylish 2 Bedroom swim-out apartment. Beautifully appointed, the apartment featured trendy and comfy outdoor sofas on our secluded and very private veranda, and beyond the safe-guard fence and gate we enjoyed tanning ourselves on our his-and-hers loungers, which stepped down into our own little section of the lagoon-style pool.
After a decadent buffet-style breakfast overlooking the pool from the main guesthouse, we headed to the Vie Spa for our luxurious couples massage and, feeling incredibly restful, whiled away the rest of the afternoon between the pool and the pool-bar, before heading into Port Douglas village for dinner.
I didn’t want our time at the Pullman Sea Temple Resort & Spa to end, and I will definitely be back to do it all over again very soon!
