It’s that time of year when the heat of the Australian sun has started to subside and slowly but surely the nights are getting cooler. The blue skies and warm sun still temps us to bare skin by day, while the cooler evening breeze has started to get the distinct feeling of Autumn.
I’ve started boxing up my summer brights and florals in lieu of something more appropriately autumnal. Monochrome is my favourite Autumn/Winter colour palette. It matches the moody greys of the City-scape, and will forever be the classic go-to colour scheme for looking City chic without much effort required. But it’s not Winter yet! There’s no need for lots of layers or chunky woven knits just yet, so here’s my take on the perfect outfit for the Summer to Autumn transitional period.
This look is about toning the palette down for Autumn, while still baring enough skin for one last dance with the Australian summer sun. The Spring/Summer collections saluted the romanticism of the Country Girl look, as we witnessed the come-back of Gingham on the runway. This Gingham crop top, by Oscar De La Renta, is the key piece in this outfit that nods a salute to the summer nights of 2015, while the outfit as a whole welcomes Autumn in to the City.
Time for the skirts to get a little longer again, and you just cannot go wrong with a black leather pencil skirt. It is a must-have in every fashionista’s wardrobe, and I just love this one by Joseph, paired with classic strappy sandals by Saint Laurent and a pair of over-sized sunglasses by Illesteva. Completing the look with a small and cheeky burst of colour, this Leaf Ring, by Sandy Powell for Atelier Swarovski, is the epitome of countryside-meets-city-glamour.
The perfect outfit for Harbourside drinks, dinner in the Eastern Suburbs, or even watching a Solar Eclipse (with a glass of bubbly in hand, of course)!
